In response to a sharp surge in digital financial crimes, the US and the UK have announced the launch of a joint law enforcement body. Its key task is to systematically combat organized groups that use cryptocurrencies and related tools to deceive private investors and companies. The initiative is aimed at taking cooperation between the countries to a new level by removing bureaucratic obstacles in the exchange of evidence and operational data.

Under the terms of the agreement, the relevant agencies of both countries will be able to conduct parallel investigations, promptly share data on suspicious transfers, and coordinate actions at all stages of the judicial process. The focus will be on analyzing the movement routes of digital assets — experts intend to track the movement of funds through various blockchain protocols and identify jurisdictions where traces are most often hidden. This approach will make it possible not only to detect thefts but also to proactively identify possible money laundering channels in order to block them quickly.

The American side has already confirmed the existence of criminal cases affecting the interests of both countries. The first practical step will be a joint operation in London, scheduled for the first ten days of October. It will involve not only law enforcement officers and prosecutors, but also experts in technology and finance — they will help implement modern methods for detecting fake platforms and identifying fraudsters who use sophisticated disguise techniques.

The need for such measures is explained by alarming statistics. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the damage caused by internet crimes in 2025 amounted to $8.65 billion — 89% more than in 2023 (4.57 billion). This indicates an increase in the number of attacks, their technical complexity, and the greater vulnerability of people to social engineering.

Investment scams involving cryptocurrencies rank first among cyber threats. Scammers create websites that are almost indistinguishable from real exchanges, advertise non‑existent tokens, and psychologically pressure victims into transferring funds to their wallets. This is often подкрепляется by fake certificates, celebrity endorsements, and simulated support. It is precisely these well‑established schemes that the new alliance is aimed at, and its goal is to deprive criminals of the hope of impunity through gaps in the legislation of various countries.
