A group of Democrats from the US Congress has launched proceedings over how the Ministry of Labor received about 47,000 responses about the inclusion of cryptocurrencies in pension plans. They sent a request to the Justice Department and the FBI. The appeal was signed by Bobby Scott, Jamie Raskin and Senator Bernie Sanders.

The reason was the agency's proposal to expand the access of digital assets to pension programs. Approximately 47,000 reviews were received during the public discussion, but almost 12,000 of them, according to lawmakers, look like an organized mailing list. There were no signatures, addresses, or other data in these comments, they were the same in structure, they arrived en masse over a week, and then abruptly stopped. Two responses from people who have already died were particularly alarming, and several citizens stated that they had not sent anything. This is similar to using stolen or unreliable data.

The Ministry of Labor replied that when analyzing opinions, the content is important to them, not the number of responses or the identity of the authors. But this does not solve the issue of the reliability of the support, because if some of the messages were created without people's knowledge, the picture is distorted. There is no official confirmation of the start of the investigation yet.

The topic remains controversial: some talk about diversification, while others talk about the risks for retirees. Public consultations should reflect real opinions, not mass mailings. The authors do not claim that all 12,000 are fake, but signs of coordination require verification. If this is confirmed, it will become clear how groups influence decisions through such methods.
