Blur, a popular NFT platform, has announced significant changes to its operations. Starting from November 12, the web interface of the blur.io website will stop functioning. It is important to note that this change will affect only the website, while the project itself will continue to operate. The Blur trading protocol will remain active on the Ethereum network, and users will still be able to interact with smart contracts directly. Thus, only the way to access the platform’s features is changing, not its fundamental trading infrastructure.

At the same time, the Blend lending protocol, which is closely linked to Blur, will stop issuing new loans secured by NFTs. This is a more significant limitation that will affect those who used their NFTs as collateral. Users with active loans in Blend are required to repay their debt by November 12. Failure to meet this condition may result in the loss of collateral NFTs. The Blur team has announced its intention to develop a separate interface for withdrawing funds from Blend, but the exact launch date is still unknown. It is strongly recommended to monitor Blur’s official communications so as not to miss important announcements.

Owners of BLUR tokens retain the right to participate in managing the fee mechanism, including making decisions on whether to enable or disable it. This means that even after the web interface stops working, token holders will continue to have the right to vote on issues related to trading fees. Nevertheless, the overall experience of interacting with the platform will become less familiar for those who preferred to use the website rather than work directly with smart contracts.

This situation is not unique. Recently, the second‑layer network Abstract, which is associated with the NFT project Pudgy Penguins, announced that it would cease operations on December 15, citing low liquidity and business stagnation. In this context, Blur’s decision appears to be part of a broader trend: the NFT market is undergoing a transformation phase, during which projects are re‑evaluating their infrastructure and abandoning components that were previously considered mandatory.

What does this mean for users? Those who used blur.io will have to find alternative ways to access the protocol or learn to interact directly with smart contracts. Blend borrowers need to repay their loans promptly by November 12 to avoid losing their collateral NFTs. BLUR holders retain their influence on the commission, but they lose the convenience of the web interface. For those who are already accustomed to working directly with the blockchain, these changes may be almost imperceptible.

It is important to understand that the discontinuation of blur.io does not mean a complete halt to the trading protocol. Blur continues to operate on the Ethereum network, and its smart contracts remain accessible. The project is not closing; it is simply changing the main way to access it. At the same time, the restrictions on issuing new loans in Blend do affect a broader audience that is accustomed to credit mechanisms secured by NFTs.
