The European stablecoin market is changing noticeably, and one of the most high‑profile announcements is the launch of Revolut’s own euro‑pegged token. This fintech giant, known for its universal app, decided not to stay on the sidelines of the trend towards regulated digital assets and began gradually introducing the EURR stablecoin. At the first stage, the product became available to some customers in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal. The choice of these countries is not accidental: they represent different market segments and allow for testing operational and legal aspects before scaling up.

According to Cointelegraph, Revolut plans to expand EURR to all countries in the European Economic Area by the end of the year. However, the deadlines will depend on the product’s readiness and the infrastructure’s compliance with local laws. The company emphasizes that it will act cautiously and step by step to reduce risks and ensure compatibility with the legislation of each jurisdiction.

The issuance of EURR is not handled by Revolut itself, but by the independent Luxembourg‑based entity Bridge Building S.A., which is owned by the American payment giant Stripe. Revolut will integrate the token into its retail app: users will be able to store it, transfer it between blockchains, and withdraw it to external wallets. This makes the token accessible without requiring special technical knowledge.

It is important that EURR complies with the requirements of the Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation (MiCA). Revolut emphasizes full compliance with the regulations, especially against the backdrop of Tether’s decision to stop supporting USDT in the EEA and Switzerland. After August 31, any remaining USDT held by Revolut customers will be automatically converted into base currencies, and now there is an alternative in the form of a regulated euro token.

Bridge fully controls the EURR reserves, holding funds equivalent to the volume of issued tokens in accordance with MiCA requirements. The exchange rate will remain stable at one euro. Access to the token is via Revolut Digital Assets Europe.

The launch of EURR is just the first step in Revolut’s stablecoin strategy. The company has confirmed the development of tokens in other currencies, but details have not yet been disclosed. Currently, attention is focused on the pilot in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal — will EURR become as popular as dollar‑based stablecoins.
