Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) does not stand still and actively tries new things. The bank now offers all of its retail customers in Spain who have reached the age of majority services for the purchase, sale and secure storage of bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH). The crypt has become part of a regular banking service. Managing digital assets in the BBVA app has become as easy as checking a balance or making a transfer.

Customers can directly buy and sell BTC and ETH without leaving the banking system or risking trusting third-party platforms. All finances – ordinary money, investments, and crypto – are in one place, which is very convenient and allows you to control all operations.

"Our goal is to make the world of digital assets accessible and secure for every Spanish customer, regardless of their experience," says Gonzalo Rodriguez, head of retail banking at BBVA.

This launch was made possible by the new MiCA rules. BBVA strictly complied with all regulatory requirements, providing all the necessary information to the Spanish National Stock Market Commission (CNMV).

This launch in Spain is the result of BBVA's long work with cryptocurrencies. The Bank gradually gained experience and tested different approaches. It all started in Switzerland in 2021, where BBVA was the first to offer its customers the opportunity to trade bitcoin. Then the Swiss division added support for the USDC stablecoin for business. At the same time, the Turkish branch of Garanti BBVA began trading popular altcoins such as Solana (SOL), Ripple (XRP) and Avalanche (AVAX) in 2023. Now, by launching crypto services in Spain, BBVA is using all this accumulated experience in its core market.
