The Blue Origin space project, which Jeff Bezos is so passionate about, considered that ordinary money is yesterday. Now, flights to space on a reusable New Shepard can be paid for not only in dollars, but also in a bunch of different cryptocurrencies. The list of accepted ones includes the most famous ones: Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), the increasingly popular Solana (SOL), as well as the stablecoins USDT and USDC.
In this interesting endeavor, Blue Origin is assisted by Shift4 Payments, a company that deals with technological solutions for payments. They will provide an opportunity to pay with crypto directly from their wallets, for example, MetaMask. The system will automatically exchange the crypt for dollars so that everything goes smoothly. This is not just a new payment method, but the addition of modern financial instruments to the space industry.
According to Blue Origin, this step is driven by customers' growing need for modern, secure and easy-to-use payment solutions. Taylor Lauber, head of Shift4 Payments, considers this event a landmark: "We have always strived to simplify global trade as much as possible. Now this task extends beyond the Earth. Working together with Blue Origin, we are opening up space to researchers from all over the world, providing them with cutting-edge tools right now."
The prospects for integration into conventional and specialized payments, including, for example, space tourism, look huge. This step by Blue Origin is not just the addition of a new payment feature, but the introduction of a rapidly developing financial instrument into one of the most ambitious and costly areas of human activity.
