The CFTC is Investigating Super Bowl Bets from Crypto. com and Kalshi

The CFTC has launched an investigation into Crypto. com and the Kalshi forecasting platform, seeking clarification from them on the compliance of their Super Bowl betting contracts with current US derivatives legislation.

notified the CFTC of the launch of trading in such contracts on December 19, 2024, and their launch took place on December 23. However, the commission did not have time to check them due to the holiday period and the possible government shutdown.

A representative of stated that the company is confident in the legality of its products and will continue to offer them, working with the regulator. Kalshi, in turn, did not give official comments.

Bets on the Super Bowl through Kalshi have already reached $2.4 million, and individual markets, including forecasts for commercials during the game, have raised another $1.5 million. The CFTC cannot immediately suspend trading because the review process will take 90 days, but after that it can take measures to ban contracts.
