A crypto developer is Suing the U.S. Attorney General to Protect His Software

Michael Lewellen, a crypto developer and member of the Coin Center organization, filed a lawsuit against US Attorney General Merrick Garland, demanding that his Pharos project be recognized as legitimate. Pharos is a non—standard cryptocurrency crowdfunding software that, according to Levellen, does not violate money transfer laws.

The lawsuit was filed in a federal court in Texas after the Department of Justice began to prosecute developers of such programs. Lewellen argues that such actions violate the First and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution, which protect freedom of speech and restrict government interference in legal processes.

Coin Center supports the lawsuit, arguing that the actions of the Ministry of Justice undermine innovation in the crypto industry. Precedents such as the cases against Tornado Cash and Samurai Wallet are adding to the community's concerns.

Levellen demands that the court confirm that Pharos does not fall under the laws on monetary transfer, and forbid further attempts to prosecute developers for creating non-custodial software.
