Kyrgyzstan has taken an important step in the digitalization of the financial system: President Sadyr Japarov signed amendments to the law "On the National Bank", which allow the launch of a pilot project of the digital som. The new currency will receive the status of an official means of payment, and its emission will be fully controlled by the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan. The digital som will be circulated on a special platform developed by the regulator, which will also establish rules for banks and financial organizations.
The National Bank will pay special attention to the cryptographic protection of the digital som in order to prevent fraud and ensure the security of transactions. This project became possible after Binance founder Changpeng Zhao became one of the consultants to the Kyrgyz government on blockchain and cryptocurrency issues.
Experts note that the launch of the digital som could accelerate the implementation of innovative financial technologies in the country, as well as increase the transparency of payments. However, questions remain about how the circulation of digital currency will be regulated and how popular it will be among the population.
