The Uphold cryptocurrency broker has announced the resumption of staking in the UK, a year after it was suspended due to regulatory uncertainty. This was made possible by legislative changes that came into force on January 31, 2025.

According to the CEO of Uphold, Simon McLaughlin, the new regulation of the British Treasury clarified that "the staking of qualified crypto assets does not apply to collective investment schemes." This allowed the platform to resume providing services to users in the UK.

Despite this, Uphold staking remains unavailable to customers in the United States, Europe, Canada, Japan, Venezuela, and Singapore. The company expects to expand its staking services in the United States and the EU by mid-2025.

McLaughlin also noted that regulatory changes provide a positive signal for the development of the blockchain economy, allowing users to earn income for participating in the network.
