The UAE authorities, through their Agency for Agriculture and Food Security, have made an important decision. Now the lands designated for farming can no longer be used for cryptomining. This is due to the fact that there are more frequent cases when mining equipment began to be placed directly on farms.

For the first violation of the rules, the owners or tenants will have to pay a fine of 100 000 dirhams. If the violation is repeated, the fine will double to 200,000 dirhams. In addition to fines, violators will face other troubles: termination of government support, disconnection from electricity supply, and even confiscation of equipment. In the most serious cases, the case may be referred to law enforcement agencies.

Representatives of the Agency stressed that they plan to strengthen control over compliance with the new rules. The main purpose of these measures is to preserve agricultural lands for their direct use and ensure the country's food security. Mining, they say, puts too much strain on the power grid and has nothing to do with agriculture.

In general, the UAE's decision to ban mining on agricultural land reflects the general trend in the world towards regulating the cryptocurrency industry. The authorities show that technological progress should not run counter to the basic economic interests and rational use of the country's resources. This step is well-considered and shows that even in the most developed countries, virtual assets cannot uncontrollably consume limited natural and energy resources.
