US regulators, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), have given the green light to operations with spot crypto assets on controlled platforms. This decision, framed as a joint statement, is an important step towards making digital assets part of the American financial system. Now national stock exchanges, regulated commodity markets, and even some foreign platforms (if they meet the requirements) can act as intermediaries in such transactions.

All of this is happening within the framework of SEC and CFTC programs designed to support innovation in finance and strengthen U.S. leadership in this area. Regulators emphasize that the new rules are designed to make the market more understandable, protect investors and create healthy competition.

At the same time, there is no complete list of crypto assets allowed for trading – regulators will evaluate each case separately. It is important that the industry is encouraged to communicate directly with regulators on technical and procedural issues.

This suggests that regulation will be flexible.
Representatives of the SEC and the CFTC say that this is only the first step towards creating a full-fledged regulatory framework for working with digital assets. Now it is possible to start integrating cryptocurrencies into the existing financial system, without waiting for large-scale laws from Congress, which may not appear soon.
