Ripple's receipt of a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from the Luxembourg Financial Sector Supervisory Commission (CSSF) on July 6, 2026, was a significant milestone. This license, which followed a two-month process beginning with preliminary approval in June 2026, fully complies with the requirements of the European Markets in Cryptoassets Regulation (MiCA). Ripple is now fully authorized to offer its services in 30 countries across the European Economic Area, having completed all the legal procedures, which typically take months and require extensive documentation.
For financial institutions and businesses, this means the emergence of a reliable partner with a clearly defined legal status. Previously, banks and payment systems avoided collaborating with crypto companies due to regulatory uncertainty. Obtaining a CASP removes this barrier. Ripple offers an integrated crypto payment solution that easily integrates into existing banking systems without compromising legislation. The Luxembourg regulator has confirmed Ripple's compliance with all operational, capital, and compliance requirements of MiCA.
Cassie Craddock, Ripple's Managing Director for the UK and Europe, noted that this license marks a transition to a new phase of European regulation, where MiCA becomes a foundation for further growth rather than a barrier. She noted that European companies are actively developing digital services and prefer to collaborate with regulatory-approved partners. Ripple now has this status, allowing it to respond quickly to requests, avoiding individual approvals in each country.
It's important to note that the European CASP license complements Ripple's previously obtained EU EMI license. This combination allows the company to process both traditional fiat and cryptocurrency transactions within a single legal framework, unifying settlement processes and reducing costs for European businesses. Ripple becomes one of the few players with such comprehensive regulatory coverage in Europe.
Globally, the European license strengthens Ripple's position as a key settlement infrastructure provider. The company currently holds over 75 regulatory approvals worldwide, and European authorization significantly expands its capabilities for international settlements.
