New York State Plans to Implement Blockchain to Protect Election Data

New York State has proposed using blockchain to protect voter data. Bill A7716, introduced by legislator Clyde Vanel, requires the State Board of Elections to study within a year how the technology can improve election security. Blockchain is considered a tool to ensure the immutability and transparency of voting data.

This is not the first such initiative - similar proposals have been voiced since 2017, but none have been adopted. However, now, amid growing interest in blockchain in the public sector, the bill has a chance to be considered. If approved, New York could become one of the first states to implement blockchain in the election system.

The topic of digital assets is also actively developing at the federal level. Following Trump’s decree on the Bitcoin reserve, 47 blockchain-related bills have been filed in 26 states.
